When we set out to repair Helical Scan Head Wheels, we realized that we needed production equipment which could hold tolerances of less than 1/40,000 of an inch. The optical companies said that it couldn't be done, so we designed and built our own. This equipment, as well as other tooling we have developed for such companies as AT&T, or other tooling to accomplish your needs is available from Sprague's Engineering Division.
When a U.S. based company recently wanted to develop a prototype of a 32 head helical scan recorder, they came to Sprague and we designed and built the working head wheel for them, when other head manufacturers had not been able to get the head wheel to work.
When Digital Equipment Corporation (now part of Compaq) wanted to develop an alternate source for the DLT head, they came to Sprague and we designed and built them and are shipping the heads for them.
When a banking services company needed an obsolete optical scanner head made, they came to Sprague, and got their head.
Other companies have sought Sprague out to develop Tape Cleaners, Replacement Head
assemblies, special application heads, and Magnetic Developers, among other products. Some
of the companies that have been involved in these various projects include
Compaq/Digital Equipment, Hewlett Packard, Imation (formerly 3M), and Bank of America.
No we do not train our competition, the availability of these training courses is restricted.
