Company Profile

Sprague Magnetics, Inc., is a woman-owned corporation that has been in business for over 25 years. In fact, when the business was incorporated back in 1981, it had already been in existence for over 7 years, dating Sprague Magnetics' origins back to 1974. Why is this important? Longevity tells you two things about a company. The first is that generally only those companies who supply a quality product or service are still in business after as little as ten years. Secondly, there is a high likelihood that a company which has been in business for as long as Sprague will still be there in the future, ensuring that we will honor all of our obligations and continue to support you.

Sprague Magnetics sells and repairs component parts and peripherals for the computer industry and for the professional audio/film industry. Initially, Sprague's business dealt with the repair and sale of new tape heads for both of these industries. The novel concept of being able to repair tape heads was, to a large degree, introduced by the principals of Sprague.

Working from this base, and in response to customer demands, we have broadened our capabilities to include the repair and sales of most components found in computer systems, as well as continuing to provide support for professional audio and film recorders.

Sprague's domestic customer base is focused primarily on third party maintenance companies, Fortune 500 corporations with their own in-house maintenance groups, and on larger Value Added Resellers who need high quality and timely repair of out-of-warranty products.

Sprague also offers international sales and service. Sprague Magnetics currently has customers in countries throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, South Pacific, the Middle East, the Far East, and Africa. We also offer training in repairs for our offshore customers. To date we have trained personnel from such diverse locations as Australia, Canada, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Korea, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, as well as people here in the United States. Training topics include QIC drive repair, 8mm drive repair, 4mm DAT drive repair, and head wheel repair.

In 1991, Sprague Magnetics purchased the Professional Audio recorder line from AMPEX, making us the primary global source for Ampex professional recorder parts. Sprague is also an authorized repair center for FOSTEX, FUJITSU, OTARI, SONY, and TASCAM, and is an authorized parts distributor for OTARI, SONY, and TEAC, as well as other manufacturers.

In a survey conducted by Hewlett Packard in 1996 of over 200 repair facilities, Sprague's knowledge and capabilities in the area of heads and head wheels were rated as not only superior to all other repair houses, but was also rated by Hewlett Packard as superior to Hewlett Packard's own capabilities.

In working with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)/Compaq, Sprague qualified to do all of their DLT head refurbishment. Also associated with that contract, Sprague designed, built, and manufactured for DEC/Compaq new replacement DLT heads for the TK86, DLT2000, DLT2000XT and DLT4000.

Working with Rockwell, Sprague is now repairing and manufacturing new ruggedized storage devices used in the commercial aviation industry.

Our specialized knowledge and engineering experience permits us to work closely on engineering level projects for many new products and/or procedures for a number of Fortune 500 companies.
